Ringing in the New Year Like a Scotsman in Edinburgh, Scotland
Hogmanay is the Scottish word for "last day of the year," but the proletariat translation is "crazy New Year's party that goes all night." More than 100,000 people joined Edinburgh’s raucous Hogmanay last year. In days prior to the big event, traditional ceremonies like torchlight processions take place. The city puts on free public concerts and fireworks too; bands like Kasabian and Scissor Sisters have performed previously.
