Soaking Up Beer and Tradition at Hofbräuhaus in Munich, Germany

Munich is often referred to as the ‘Beer capital of the world’ and Hofbräuhaus has been brewing some of the city’s best ale for the past 400 years. Step into this beer hall and you’ll experience all the traditions associated with beer drinking, Bavarian style. Like waitresses in traditional dirndls carrying 10 beer mugs at the same time or ompah bands striking up a traditional tune. Hofbräuhaus serves up hearty local delicacies like veal sausages, crackling roast pork, and giant pretzels. And of course a variety of home brewed beers served in massive one-litre glasses.

Hofbräuhaus

Locals and tourists alike get lost in oompah music, chanting and cheering—all while enjoying liter-sized beers. You may even have to grip your mug two-handed style. The sense of inclusiveness is second only to the desire to chomp down on oversized, salty pretzels. Language barriers do not exist at Hofbräuhaus because all the communication that is required can be done with smiles and hand gestures. While it is sure to be crowded, this is one of the selling points rather than an unfavorable side effect of its popularity. A truly Bavarian experience, Hofbräuhaus is guaranteed to impress and satisfy.
