Cruising the Curvy Road on the Scenic Drive to Hana, Hawaii
Spend a day on the windy, breathtaking road to Hana. Often referred to as the “The Land That Time Forgot,” Hana is one of the most undeveloped and untouched are of the islands. The drive can take about three hours, but is well worth it if you’ve got the time. As you twist and turn your way down the road, remember to stop whenever you see something that tickles your fancy be it a beautiful waterfall or a stunning beach vista. At the end of the road is the famous “seven sacred pools,” a series of cascading waterfalls and glistening pools.
You'll have to find the proper balance on the cliff-hugging curvy roads of the Hana Highway. It's your choice whether or not to take Dramamine. You don't want to fall asleep and miss the island views (that include whales, waterfalls, and rainbows), but be warned that the hairpin turns will induce motion sickness in any car smaller than an eighteen-wheeler. If a local driver appears behind you, pull over and wait for them to burn rubber around you, you won't be driving fast enough. It will take a good hundred round trips on the road to get the groove and the guts to take the road as fast as the Maui natives, but after your first stop in a bamboo forest, you'll be up to that challenge.
