Stormwatching From Heceta Head Lighthouse Near Yachats, Oregon
The Heceta Head Lighthouse and lightkeeper's house were built in 1894 to keep ships in the stormy Pacific from crashing into the abrupt, rocky Oregon coast. The house has been restored, and now serves as an interpretive center during the day and B&B at night. Overnight guests are encouraged to visit the lighthouse at night, something most visitors don't get a chance to see, as the state park on which the lighthouse resides generally closes at dusk. In the morning, enjoy all seven courses of the gourmet breakfast served each day—it's included in the price of the room. (Bonus for newcomers: the lighthouse is pronounced "he-SEE-tah," and the nearest town is pronounced "YAH-hots," no matter what it may look like.)
