Staying Sane at the Crazy House in Dalat, Vietnam
Alice in Wonderland meets Dr. Seuss at the Hang Nga Guest House and Art Gallery, better known as the Crazy House. Wander over bridges shaped like vine covered branches as tigers and giraffes glare at you from corners of a five storey house built in the shape of a giant, menacing tree. The Crazy House is the work of Vietnamese architect Hang Nga (daughter of former President of Vietnam, Truong Chinh) who designed the house as a monument to dreams, fantasy, folklore, and free-form. Bunk down in one of the guest rooms complete with bear skin rugs and fantasy inspired furniture or view the works of art suspended from the tropical trees in the grounds. Not ready to book yourself into the crazy house just yet? A day visit is possible and the architect is usually around to answer questions about her work.
