Few places are more appropriate for harnessing the inner child and beer lover within than Portland's classic arcade: Ground Kontrol. The double decker arcade features a bevy of old school classics like Street Fighter II, Tetris and Q-Bert and an entire floor dedicated to showcasing one's pinball wizard-like skills. Oops, did I forget to mention the bar? With cup holders within go-go gadget arm length of each machine, Ground Kontrol has Portlanders scrounging up their vintage Nintendo tees and every last quarter in the couch. Game On.

In this day of 3D graphics and lifelike avatars, older crowds still crave the solid rigidity of pixilated blocky video games. If the labyrinthine worlds of today’s games frustrate you, head over to Ground Kontrol to celebrate a simpler time—and celebrating is what you’ll do. This vintage video arcade also has a fully stocked bar. Send Pac-Man scurrying from digitized ghosts with a joystick in one hand and a cold beer in the other. Other favorites from the ’80s and early ’90s include Space Invaders and Mortal Kombat. Dozens of pinball machines further test your hand-eye coordination. Wear your hair big, and you can pretend the last 15 years never happened.
