Hugging Mike Grgich of Grgich Hills Estate in Napa, California
Eighty-seven years young and still running his vineyard, esteemed wine maker Miljenko "Mike" Grgich (pronounced Grr-gitch) loves dropping in on tours at his estate winery and is a notorious hugger. If he's wearing sneakers, you know he's working in the vineyard; if he's in his shiny shoes, he's just stopping by to say hello. Grgich crafted the Montelena 1973 Chardonnay, a.k.a. "the Wine Heard 'Round the World" from the movie Bottle Shock, which won the 1976 Judgment of Paris blind tasting and put hippie-dippy Napa Valley on the map. Take a delicious tour with The Napa Valley Wine Train, look for his trademark blue beret, and see if you can't hug the man that started the legend of American Wine Country.
