Listening to the Great Sand Dunes National Park in Alamosa, Colorado
Seeing the Great Sand Dunes from the highway, a few miles or so from the park, isn't enough to prepare you. Seeing the dunes grow even larger as you enter the park still isn't enough to prepare you. Once you've parked your car, you walk through a small section of desert bushes lining the parking lot and as the brush disappears from view, the dunes emerge. The sheer size and location of these sand mountains is astounding. Though the most odd part is the silence. It's when you begin your journey towards the dunes that you realize just how magnificent places like these truly are. Standing atop the great sand dunes is a feeling you must experience for yourself, because it just cannot be replicated or recreated in any other way.
