Taking the Long View in Concord, Massachusetts
The trails at Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge attract walkers the same way the marshes attract birds. For a unique look at it all, climb the observation tower where you’ll find a telescope that gives you a different perspective. The expanse of tangled marsh plants becomes distinct stalks with tufted tops or spiky blades. Ducks float on their own reflections and create expanding circles across the water. A photographer equipped with a zoom lens looks like an odd, long-beaked bird. It’s surprising to see things in a whole new way.
