Getting a 360-Degree View on Glendale Peak in Los Angeles
This somewhat challenging trail winds up 800 mostly-shaded feet to well-worth-the-climb vistas of LA in every direction. To the south is downtown, Long Beach, the ocean, and Catalina Island. To the east, San Gabriel Valley stretches far into the distance, while to the west Santa Monica and the Pacific sparkle. Mt. Baldy and the Angeles Crest, to the north, are most spectacular just after a rain when the peaks are dusted with snow. Park in the Merry-go-Round lot, off Crystal Springs across from the Griffith Park ranger station, and catch the trail with the widest path heading up. At the five-point trailhead, take a left for a loop up to a spot where car commercials are shot or go right up a short hill to a plateau. Both directions offer panoramic wonders that will leave you breathless.
