Getting Up Close and Personal With Birds in B.C.'s Reifel Sanctuary
On the land, in the water and through the air—wild birds are everywhere at the George Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary. Located 30 minutes south of Vancouver in Delta, British Columbia, the park is part of the Fraser River estuary, an ecological site of international importance to millions of birds, fish, and other wildlife. It lies along the Pacific flyway, so it’s an excellent place to see migratory birds in the spring and fall. Lesser snow geese call it home in winter, and sandhill cranes also nest there. Visitors can purchase bags of seed to feed the wild ducks and geese that roam the grounds, and they often crowd right in on you. It's a great place to spot herons and eagles, as well.
