Communing with the Natural and Supernatural in North Miami
The Tequesta Indians may have been wiped out by conquistadors in the 16th century, but many believe that their spirits continue to roam through the Enchanted Forest Park in North Miami. Once a burial ground for those early inhabitants, the park now teems with fluttering butterflies, squirrels, and iguanas scampering through a dense forest. If you decide to veer off the trails and walk into the woods, you may suddenly feel the hairs rise on the back of your neck. Is it a spirit? Or worse—a SPIDER!?! During the summer, hundreds of spooky Golden Orb Weaver spiders are silently suspended between the trees. But don’t be afraid! Come sit and relax amongst the flock of ibises by the pond far from the arachnids or bring the kids to ride the ponies by the stables. The park has bonfires twice a year—guys, gals, and ghouls of all ages are welcome.
