Ending the Day the Edmonds Way in Washington
“It’s an Edmonds Kind of Day,” reads the local bumper sticker. Built into a natural “bowl” facing Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains, this laid-back enclave (12 miles north of Seattle) is edged with a string of beaches, marina, and popular waterfront off-leash area. Add to the natural splendor an idyllic Main Street where you can café-hop, dine, shop (especially the summer farmers' market), and enjoy a performance at the Center for the Arts, and what else does a day tripper need? Edmonds seals the deal on the eponymously named Sunset Avenue where you can join the dog walkers, joggers, photographers, and locals watching the main event from their front decks. With the mountains in perfect silhouette, the ferry catching the orange glow, and the town windowpanes reflecting the color palette, you’ll want to replay this bumper-sticker-slogan moment again and again.
