Growing Roots at the Hippie Farm in Little Haiti, Miami
Step out of the concrete jungle and onto the Earth-N-Us Farm and you’ll ask yourself, “Is this Miami?” Hidden in Little Haiti, this oasis of tropical plants and fruit trees transports you the freewheeling 1960s, or perhaps the pioneering 1860s. A large organic garden grows roots, herbs, and plants year-round. Kids run around gathering plants to feed the goats and other animals in the pens. The farm is listed on the WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) network, so you can come in as a volunteer and work with aquaculture in their man-made pond in exchange for housing. If room is available, you can even live in the tree house! Come by on a Sunday afternoon and meet colorful locals at their weekly potluck and volleyball match.
