Feeling the Vibe in Downtown L.A., California
Commercial galleries, museums, and non-profits bury their ideological differences in favor of putting on an eye-popping collective show of exhibitions. From highbrow to lowbrow, digital art to sculpture to lowrider graffiti t-shirt art, the creativity spills—along with you—out onto the streets, where the locals bring their own game for visitors by staging impromptu concerts and blocking the sidewalks with handmade wares. On the second Thursday of every month, the Downtown Art Walk offers a chance for strollers to immerse themselves on a self-guided exploration of the bohemian energies of this increasingly chic area, centered around Main Street. If you can't afford the work inside the gallery, then maybe a papier-mache skull for $10 outside will fill that space back home.
