Savoring the Peace in Copalis Beach, Washington
If you’re thinking about a trip to Ocean Shores, consider heading a little more north for a change of pace. Expect the same rugged ocean and same gamble on the weather, but an entirely different experience. Here you find less commercial development, a wide, sandy beach and a designated wildlife refuge connected to Griffiths-Priday Ocean State Park. The Copalis River gently flows into the ocean near an airport runway on the wet sand (low tide only!). Fly kites, comb the beach, dig for razor clams in season, watch birds, watch the sea, wade in the shallow spit, or do nothing. Pick up supplies in a nearby town because there’s not much “town life” in Copalis Beach and that’s sort of the point.
