Confronting Withering Heights in Toronto, Canada

Standing 1,815 feet tall, the CN Tower keeps good company with the Empire State Building, Chunnel, and Panama Canal—at least according to the American Society of Civil Engineers and their seven wonders of the modern world. Visitors to the glass floor can test their backbone by daring to stand on the transparent floor and gazing 112 stories down. Although it’s five times stronger than the necessary weight-bearing standard, it takes nerve to face such a vertiginous view. With only clear tempered glass beneath your feet, even the bravest of daredevils may just feel their knees buckle.

Glass Floor

It may be easy to overlook the CN Tower as just another tourist destination while visiting Toronto, but I highly recommend checking it out. There is alot of history connected to this tower, still the tallest structure in the Western hemisphere. Construction began in 1973 and was completed in 1976. There is naturally a revolving restaurant, and outdoor terrace, where you can experience the severe wind whipping around this structure. The speedy elevator that takes you to the top contains a glass floor! Can't describe that ride in words. The most striking thing about being in this tower was the 2.5" thick glass floor on the top, which is replaced annually. Not for the light hearted! It took some time to muster up the courage to step on that glass. According to facts, this glass can support 14 large hippos!!
