Chicago’s German-inspired Christkindlmarket, an outdoor holiday festival held from Thanksgiving weekend to Christmas Eve, is a feast for the senses. Sure, it may be freezing cold outside, but step into Daley Plaza and take in the enticing aromas drifting from the various food vendors, and you’ll hardly seem to notice. Munch on everything from strudel, schnitzel, and latkes to Bavarian pretzels and spiced nuts. Snap pics beneath the dazzling giant Christmas tree, browse the shops for handmade steins and ornaments, and stop into the candy shop for marzipan and gingerbread treats. When the wonder starts to wane and the cold can no longer be ignored, head for the warming tent.
