Going Green and Vegan at Cedar House's Yurts in Dahlonega, Georgia

If you are planning a visit to the green mountains of north Georgia, consider an eco-stay at Cedar House in one of their wood-paneled rooms or Mongolian yurts tucked into the forest. Innkeepers Fred and Mary Beth serve vegan fare, religiously recycle, compost, and live out their eco-friendly creed. They can point you in the right direction for everything from museums to music to wineries, but express an interest, and Fred can also hook you up with a composting toilet, solar food composter, or a yurt of your very own.

If you could take just one photo: Cedar House Inn & Yurts

Once the epicenter of America’s first gold rush, Dahlonega is now all about the wine. Following the signs to the ten wineries near this stretch of winding state road, you wouldn’t guess that Atlanta is just an hour away. Stay at eco-friendly Cedar House Inn & Yurts with Fred and Mary Beth, two of the best innkeepers you will ever meet. Buy some wine at Wolf Mountain Vineyards, and stay for a light lunch. Drive to see waterfalls, then grab a late bite and enjoy live music at The Crimson Moon in downtown Dahlonega.
