Returning to Nature in the Gorge de l'Ardeche, France
All you’ll need is a tent and a hammock—a bathing suit is optional. No, it’s not a naturist camp but Les Camping des Grottes in the Ardèche Canyons. Lost to the world above, the camp site is only accessible by a 20-minute hike down the cliff side. Each step is a step back in time. You may even run into the wild goats which trip lightly through this rugged gorge. At the end of the path the forest opens to a rock ledge overhanging a sandy cove where the crystal water laps at the canyon wall. With no electricity and cold showers, this campground is for the hearty. A simple café serving salads, roasted chicken, and lots of ice cream is its only feature.
