Feeling the Latin Beat at Calle Ocho in Miami, Florida

It's a street party with over a million people. Salsa, merengue, and reggaeton are blasting everywhere. Delicious food from street vendors representing all of the Latin world. Calle Ocho is the culmination of the Miami Carnaval and it's gigante. It overflows into 24 blocks of downtown Miami. You'll see amazing dancers shaking it near dozens of stages featuring the biggest names in música latina. After it's over, the parties continue in the clubs.

Calle Ocho

Miami is synonymous with Cuban flavor and at no place or time is this more evident than on Calle Ocho in the middle of the afternoon. This iconic street is lined with all styles of Cuban eateries—from flashy landmark restaurants to tiny mami and papi hole in walls—all catering to the afternoon cafecito. These walk-up coffee windows serve more than just the high-octane blend of caffeine and sugar that is the lifeblood of the Cuban people. They also provide a place to slow down and gather with fellow compatriots, a place to reminisce about the good old days and recapture a piece of the motherland. So, around three in the afternoon, walk up to the counter, order a cortadito, and talk politics with the old men wearing guayaberas. You’ll find that a trip to pre-Castro Havana makes for the ideal afternoon break.
