Searching for a Cliffside Cave at Cala Bassa Beach in Ibiza, Spain
On the west coast of Ibiza about 20 minutes from San Antonio, Cala Bassa is a sparkling cove, attracting a diverse group of sun-worshippers, particularly families in the summer. If you're restless and curious, ditch the crowd and wander into the woods behind the beach. It's a flat, easy hike through the trees; soon after, you reach a clearing and cliffs overlooking an old watchtower. But the exploration doesn't stop here; there's a hermit who lives in a cave not far from here. Head back into the woods until you reach cliffs overlooking boats along the shore. When you stumble upon random objects—religious arrangements in the dirt—you know you're close. Look closely as you gaze at the beach you left—just below, to your right, you'll see the opening to a cave in the cliffs...and perhaps steal a peek at its resident.
