Watching the Sun Set in Cabo de São Vicente, Portugal
Before Europeans discovered the Americas, Cabo de São Vicente, the southwesternmost tip of Europe, seemed like the end of the world. Even now, as the earth falls away under your feet and jagged cliffs drop down to crashing waves, it’s hard to convince yourself there’s another world beyond that endless sea. Twenty-first-century knowledge of the earth is wiped away as the wind whips towards the west, as if it’s on a journey towards the edge of the earth. As a blazing sun nears the horizon line, its changing colors dye the cliffs shades of brick and tangerine.
