Slurping a Shake From the "Strawberry Queen" in Miami, Florida
The strawberry milkshakes at Burr’s Berry Farm are the closest you’ll ever get to sipping pure sunshine. This nostalgic wooden fruit stand, open from Christmas Day to Mother’s Day, stands smack dab in the middle of a folksy U-Pick-Em strawberry patch, serving bulging baskets of berries and homemade shakes, desserts, jams, and preserves crafted from ripe tropical fruits of the Redlands. Hop in line for a shake from grandmotherly Mary Burr, nicknamed “The Strawberry Queen” in the ‘60s. Each thick sip struggles upward through your straw as the fresh, pink-flecked goodness inches its way toward your lips. Then, it hits you: A frosty wash of cold, followed by a burst of simple sun-ripened sweetness and a wholesome creaminess that lingers long after the last sip.
