Mochi (Japanese pounded rice cake) is a favorite treat on the islands, and perhaps the only way to improve upon the traditional sticky sweet is to fill it with ice cream. The tiny, retro-styled ice cream parlor Bubbies offers mochi ice cream in flavors that range from the classical—sakura, green tea, and lychee—to the decadent and nontraditional—chocolate mint, chocolate peanut butter, and tiramisu.
