Getting a Sweet Mochi Ice Cream Fix at Bubbies in Honolulu, Hawaii
Mochi (Japanese pounded rice cake) is a favorite treat on the islands, and perhaps the only way to improve upon the traditional sticky sweet is to fill it with ice cream. The tiny, retro-styled ice cream parlor Bubbies offers mochi ice cream in flavors that range from the classical—sakura, green tea, and lychee—to the decadent and nontraditional—chocolate mint, chocolate peanut butter, and tiramisu. Even if mochi’s not your thing, you won’t miss ou—how about a “Keep it Up All Night” milkshake or ice-cream sundae in a souvenir toilet bowl?
