Sampling Seasonal House Brews in Frederick, Maryland
Located in the heart of historic downtown, Brewer’s Alley is Frederick’s oldest brewpub. Beer making has long taken place along Carroll Creek, since the city’s origins in the colonial era. Today the brewery and restaurant serves its own kölsch, pils, India pale ale, nut brown ale, and oatmeal stout year round—in addition to a rotating cast of seasonal creations. A suds-friendly food menu includes Maryland favorite jumbo-lump crab cakes, house-smoked pulled pork sandwiches, and roasted oysters. With its warm atmosphere (both at the bar or in the dining room) and fair prices, Brewer’s Alley remains a local fixture, permanently in fashion with hoppy IPAs and richly roasted porters—expertly concocted by brewmaster Tom Flores.
