In planning a loop drive down from Cape Town to the Cape Peninsula, Boulders Beach is a key stop along the way. It is great fun to take a stroll along the elevated boardwalk at the Boulders Beach's penguin colony. As the pathway snakes along the shoreline, there are multiple overlooks where you can watch the penguins swimming in the water and waddling in the sand. It is amusing to view the penguins frolicking on the water's edge -- and to people-watch the tourists watching.

With so many penguins nesting at Boulders Beach the rangers have placed many named and tagged plastic semicircular temporary homes around the sand dunes. Much to our surprise this one cute penguin wandered out of a drainpipe! This entire recreational area is packed with life, beach flora and ocean views. Refreshments are available at the mid way kiosk. Just a lovely way to spend a day.
