Scanning the Bay for Manatee Mustaches in Homestead, Florida
Experiencing Biscayne Bay doesn't have to involve chasing your runaway boat down the notoriously slick loading ramps of Black Point Marina with the other weekend warriors. Slip on your water shoes, roll up your jeans, and hike the untamed mile-and-half-long jetty nearby. While strolling along the mangrove-lined channel, scan the water’s glassy surface to catch telltale ripples of cruising saltwater crocs and peeking manatee whiskers, and listen for the rustling of bandit-faced raccoons robbing unattended picnic baskets. Further offshore, tipsy fishermen reel in red grouper while others play losing games of tug-of-war with bonnethead sharks. When the swelling tide and setting sun chase you inland, revisit the marina in time to watch the tipsy weekenders try to hitch their boats.
