Mingling With Caffeinated Brethren in Tallahassee, Florida
“Meet thy neighbors” is the philosophy of Black Dog Cafe, located in the cottages of Lake Ella. Open for over a decade, Black Dog (named for owner Carla Reid’s beloved pet) has become a Tallahassee mainstay for students, artists, and writers. The coffee shop is adjacent to the Tallahassee Legion Hall and features open mic nights, special events, outdoor patio seating, and free wifi (though not on weekends, when the owner encourages patrons to unplug and get to know their neighbors). Black Dog baristas are some of Tallahassee’s finest purveyors of espresso and artists of their trade. Trust that your Americano will never be bitter, there will always be a fine selection of loose teas and specialty green blooming teas, or if you’re in the mood for experimenting—let your barista craft something unique and delicious, like a white-chocolate and lavender mocha. Their signature drinks are the inimitable Black or White Dog frozen coffee confection—topped off with handmade whipped cream. Photo: Black Dog Cafe
