Escaping Amidst the Fog and the Ghosts in Dingle, Co. Kerry, Ireland
With tourists smothering the cliffs of Moher just a short drive north, you can risk giving them a miss, for the breathtaking coastal drive along the Slea Head Road on the Dingle Peninsula, County Kerry. Watch out for the signs, then take a short walk up the hill to the ancient beehive village, accompanied by the roaring winds coming off the Atlantic Ocean. As you feel yourself being blown back thousands of years, you will marvel at the unmortared circular walled huts, shaped like beehives. The stones of the walls overlap and curve inwards on a gradient, sealed off at the top by a large capstone. Inside it’s warm, dry, still and quiet, and from here you can enjoy the stunning views of Dingle Bay and the Atlantic Ocean beyond, without seeing another single soul.
