Crossing Frontiers at the Mexican Flea Market in Homestead, Florida
The further you go into the Bargain Town Flea Market (known to locals simply as the "Mexican Market"), the more like you feel you’re venturing into a slightly sketchy Central American carnival. Raven-haired toddlers ride dusty ponies as their fathers examine intricately stitched cowboy boots, the aroma of sizzling gorditas and maíz asado (roast corn) follows you through makeshift vendor tents, and a huge open-air barn houses produce, both exotic and local, and jugs of fresh watermelon juice. As you pass rows of macaws darting their black tongues into a Corona water bottle, you'll wonder if you’ve crossed the border.
