Sipping a Little History at the Wurstmarkt in Bad Dürkheim, Germany
Forget Oktoberfest — lovers of the grape can flock to a 570-year-old celebration of wine each September at the Bad Dürkheimer Wurstmarkt. Pay no mind to direct translations — this massive two-week festival may serve sausage, but the focus is all on the wine. You can enjoy live music, ride your fill on carnival mainstays, or shop at the many stalls that line the festival grounds. But the bulk of your time should be spent in the Weindorf (wine village), where your head will spin from the hundreds of wines on offer (and perhaps, too, from the glasses you just couldn't resist).
