Discovering New Talent at Artists Village in Santa Ana, California
It seems like every town has an art walk, but underprivileged Santa Ana is home to a remarkable wealth of art, and there is no better time to experience it than the first Saturday of every month at the Artists Village Open House. From 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., you can browse the galleries and working studios of established and emerging artists. Browse local lofts for commercial art, or visit Cal State Fullerton’s Grand Central Art Center on Broadway, where graduate students welcome visitors into their labyrinth of experimental arts in progress. Check its theater for current performances or exhibits. Out on the streets, live music and performances entertain. Sit on the patio at Memphis Soul Café to take in the atmosphere while enjoying a cocktail and a plate of shellfish jambalaya or cornmeal fried catfish.
