Drifting By the Pastures in Valley Ford, California
You put your kayak in the water at a dirt turnout found on the back road of a back road in the middle of a lonely stretch of nowhere. And this is the most urban part of the trip out to the ocean. Six miles each way, paddling amidst strange sandstone formations, gentle hills, steep valleys, and finally, the beach. Cormorants, egrets and pelicans accent the shores and the stretches of open water. Cows graze peacefully along the banks. Occasionally an otter will be seen romping in the shallows or on shore. There is no sound of traffic, no sound of other people, except on the RARE occasion that someone else decides to make the same journey. Arrange a tour or bring your own kayak.
