Alfaro’s, established in 1998 on 75 acres of previously aging apple orchards, is a true reflection of one family’s earthy passion. The friendly staff includes the Alfaro family sommelier as well as a former wine club member, content to pour and lovingly describe the 8 anything-but-standard tastings, or linger and discuss grapes, organic acreage, or labels designed by or honoring family. The stark beauty of bare winter vines contrast the lush, subtly transportive wines in aroma and texture, as well as taste; first evoking local summer fruits and flowers, then leading one through a myriad of opulent berries, spices, smokiness and rich velvet. As Alfaro’s welcomes you into their winery - couples, wedding shower parties, families with kids and dogs (they have free apple juice and doggie treats to accommodate!) or those simply looking for a touch of full-bodied scarlet adventure - you’ll feel like you’re part of the family.

Any winery that names its vineyards after family members and adorns its wine bottles with labels designed by family teens—such as Alfaro’s syrah sporting a colorful 1950s Chevy—has earned the right to call itself a family winery. Basketball nets, coloring books, and dog bones make credible Alfaro’s promise that it is kid and dog friendly. The spaciousness of the winery’s three-part tasting area, including an indoor bar and two patios, reflects the expansiveness of its verdant hillside vineyards and the generosity of its nine pours. Although all of Alfaro’s wines happily recall the fruit from which it is made, each red and white has a distinct flavor and texture. At Alfaro’s, tasters can bring their pups, toddlers, athletes, fiancés, and great aunt Mildreds, and still feel relaxed and indulged. It is so homey that you’ll want to stay for the afternoon. And the icing on the cake is that you are welcome to do so.
