Downing a (Really) Cold One in Stockholm, Sweden
What’s generally required for Absolut Ice Bar Stockholm at the Nordic Sea Hotel is a reservation, a fur-lined cape with gloves (provided for you), and a sense of humor. For that, you get 40 minutes inside and one mixed vodka drink. You arrive. They dress you in cold weather gear, put you in a dark room, and close the door. Another door quickly opens to reveal another world where the walls, seating, tables, bar, décor, and even glasses are carved from ice that once flowed through a river north of the Arctic Circle. Music thumps, the lighting flows, but no one feels really sexy. Here they’re all smiley. The bar’s temperature is 23 degrees Fahrenheit (-5 Celsius), but the atmosphere is outright fun. Sometimes there are tourist traps that really are worth all the trappings.
